The Reaping Rose is book two of three in the Realm of Beating Hearts Series. This is a fantasy, sci‑fi romance, and is a trilogy. Just like book one, it is written well, but there is sooo much more information and soooo much happening at once that I still find myself getting confused or struggling to remember and keep up with everything going on. I’d describe the vibe as a mix of Thor, Superman, and Twilight.
It continues into a slow burn. There’s a mix of spice, plot twists, angst, violence, banter, and so much more. We’re introduced to several more characters that were not in book one, which added to the intensity but added to that struggle of trying to keep everyone and everything straight in my head.
Elorie’s bravery, compassion and big heart keep growing. She continues to stay true to herself and will fight to the death for what she believes in. She leads with courage and empathy, and is willing to sacrifice herself for the people she cares about and all innocent lives.
I think Elorie has rubbed off on Wilder. He’s become quite compassionate himself. He is still loyal to the crown, but he will follow Elorie to the end; crown or not. And make no mistake, he’s still lethal and will follow through with his personal plans of vengeance.
In this book we’re getting multiple love stories at once, kinda feels like a bonus. Although Elorie and Wilder are considered the lead characters, several of the supporting characters are just as important and focused on; reminding me of a soap opera!
Overall, it’s a unique, twisty, slow‑burn fantasy romance with big emotions, big stakes, big characters, big plot twists and a cliffhanger that sets up A LOT more to come.
