Vile Acts is part of the Van Doren Universe. The Van Doren’s play a very important role in this book, more for their technology than their fabled psychopathy. Although that is heavily in play.
Fade has been in love with Erez for five years and Erez is totally clueless. This is ostensibly what the book is about but I feel it’s about grief and the lengths a person will go to when asking why. Their story, while not lighthearted is still happy in its own way. Erez may be the most dim person ever when it comes to a relationship.
Erez’s sister committed suicide ten years ago and Erez isn’t over it. He’s looking for a message to tell him why, in her vast collection of art. As a child of six Eraz saved four year old Alice by accidentally killing the man that was abusing her. They became each other’s person and he’s still bereft.
It’s also about a pervasive evil that preys on the helpless and a disenfranchised population. While the actual acts aren’t portrayed on page for the most part, the author has used her prose to give the reader a sense of darkness and helplessness that the victims face and to a lesser extent the searchers also. Justice is meted out without mercy, as is usual for the author.
A lot of Van Doren’s and Van Doren Light (as I call the people who associate with and are pulled into the Van Doren universe) peopled this story. It takes a village…and they have created a powerful voice for turning the world bright again. They have created an AI, Aven. Who is both scary and hilarious, (he) brought a lot of light to an (at times) dismal and hurtful story.

Crea lives in upstate New York with her dog and husband. She has been writing since grade school, when her second grade teacher had her class keep writing journals. She has a habit of creating secondary, and often time tertiary, characters that take over her stories. All of her RH relationships end up being heavily polyamorous – meaning it’s not just all the men for one woman. There’s also some M/M action going on. When she can’t fall asleep at night, she thinks up new scenes for her characters to act out. This, of course, is how most of her meant-to-be-thrown-away characters tend to end up front and center – and utterly swoon-worthy! Don’t ask her how many book boyfriends she has…
When not writing, Crea is an avid reader. Her TBR pile is several hundred books high (don’t even look at her kindle wish list or the unread books on her tablet). Sometimes, she enjoys crafting; sometimes, exploring nature; sometimes, traveling. Mostly, she enjoys putting her characters on paper and breathing life into them. Oh, and sleeping. Crea loves to sleep!
