Alex was mourning the death of the love of his life, murdered on their wedding day. Vengeance fueled his every thought. He didn’t care that he put his life in jeopardy with every move he made and every Bratva he killed. Danny was Alex’s best friend and had been in love with him for a long time. Watching the man he loved spiraling down broke his heart and he did the best he could to protect and watch over him.
This author has created some nice characters. For every gray (or sometimes black) character there has always been brighter, lighter personalities to give the reader happy moments. In this case it’s Gideon’s twins and Rita. Even some of of the soldiers stand out (Penn for the win).
I liked Danny’s protective nature. Seemed almost incongruous with his role as an enforcer. I would have liked more scenes between them exploring their feelings. It seemed Alex moved very quickly from grief to becoming romantically involved with a man. It also seemed that Gideon put up with a lot from one of his seasoned soldiers.
That said, I did enjoy the book. I hope we get more from this world.
