How much is a year of my life worth?

It turns out the answer is a hell of a lot, but there’s a catch. I’m more valuable asleep than I am awake. Go figure.

Before I went under, I was Darius Castor, an elite asset in the cutthroat world of corporate espionage. But after an assignment went nova and left my body broken, tech mogul Carson Harris offered me the deal of a lifetime. The terms were simple: spend three years in a stasis pod while my highly specialized skill set was harvested and downloaded into “duplicants,” synthetic beings designed to be the workforce of the future. In exchange, I’d get a massive payout and the cutting-edge cybernetics needed to rebuild my shattered body.

It was the perfect solution—until someone cancelled my wake-up call.

Now that I’m awake, I need answers and allies. I also need to expose a billionaire madman’s plans to hijack humanity’s future. But first, I’m going to get my body back.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Darius Castor…an agent involved in corporate espionage, current assignment on Mars. When he’s blown up, he is “rescued” by the Myriad Project and Carson Harris. Go into stasis for a few years, let Myriad pick at his brain to use the best parts and come out the other side with his body repaired and a shot at a good life on a dying Earth. What really happens is the stuff of Science Fiction.

My dad sat down with me when I was around twelve and explained a Scientific American to me. I didn’t understand it all, but it led to Frank Herbert, Ray Bradbury, and Samuel Delaney to name just a few. This book brought back the nostalgia for a good old Science Fiction story. While Duplicity isn’t true to what I remember from the classics, it still had me awed by the tech and the sense of wanting to know what’s around the corner.

I liked the writing style, an almost serial form, waiting for the next disaster to happen. Knowing that the hero’s (and let’s not forget Puff) would persevere in the end.

Of course if you are reading this review you haven’t really learned anything about the story. Why would I spoil that? Enjoy.
