Some ghosts never stop haunting you.
Mine wears the face of the only boy who ever knew the real me.
His blood stains my conscience, and the guilt I carry keeps everyone in my life at arm’s length. I don’t deserve love. I don’t deserve forgiveness. After what I’ve done, I only deserve the darkness.
Then a handsome lumberjack of a stranger walks into my dance studio. And I crave him. I need him.
Not to save me, or to fix me. I need him to help me forget. Just for a little while. Samson Buckingham is the perfect distraction.
But getting involved is dangerous. Not because of his family ties or the violence he’s clearly capable of, but because I promised myself I’d never let anyone get close again. And Samson is the only man who could make me risk unearthing the parts of me long buried…

Allegiant by Cora Rose
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Allegiant: Describing someone who shows unwavering loyalty, a faithful follower or a person who owes allegiance
Samson’s current assignment is to assassinate Rowan. He wasn’t supposed to take him to a seedy motel and he certainly wasn’t supposed to have the best night of his life with him. The Firm fully investigates any request they receive and Rowan seems to be a sadistic murderer, but after the “night” and watching Rowan dance, all Samson wants wants is to scoop him up and take him home. The Firm be damned. Rowan lives with a soul crushing guilt, smothering his life. His best friend, a man he considered a brother was taken from him in a brutal way and it was his fault. Samson was about to teach him different.
A family of vigilantes shouldn’t cause grins but the Buckingham’s (and assorted significant others) are funny, ridiculous, caring, and deadly. Their antics are a tension reducer for a highly trained family of assassins. Game nights are hilarious. Add to the mix a grumpy neighbor, a “Dotty” housekeeper with a weaponized spray vinegar bottle, a pint sized puppy super destructor, and you have a recipe for murder and mayhem.
I’ve enjoyed the series but this is by far my favorite. I thought Samson and Rowan were a well matched pair. Even with all of Rowan’s angst he was still a sympathetic character and Samson was the protector, just delicious characters overall. I’m really looking forward to Jules story next.
