Cian captures Devlin, his worst enemy, the man who had murdered his father. His intent was to get as much information from him as he could before killing Devlin. Instead he got wrapped up in a dangerous sexual game. The games were dangerous for both but overwhelmingly addictive. Obsession follows, on both parts.
Devlin was really meant to be a villain.That’s how he saw himself, and how he was perceived by all. Cian wasn’t so much a villain as just plain bad a**. Each in their own way violent, protective, and above all in control, until they weren’t. I believe both men were victims of their upbringing and really the villain in the book was their pasts.
Devlin was just so sad. The author did an excellent job of portraying the pathos of his life. Cian was just so angry and even as he was punishing Devlin, his feelings quickly became ambivalent. While Cian’s treatment of Devlin was very harsh and seemed extreme, I felt that it was needed to show how far Devlin had fallen and what Cian was willing to subject him too for revenge.
I really liked these guys. They both had strong personalities but were both so damaged they came across as needy. Cian’s crew was also very likable. They made having his back a family affair. Really looking forward to Jace and Rhys’ story.
