There’s complicated and then there’s Keeley Reynolds.

When I chase a childhood dream and buy the San Francisco Storm football team, I don’t expect it to change me.

But from the moment I cross paths with Keeley Reynolds, the team’s confident and fiercely loyal media liaison, something clicks into place.

Our connection is instant. The kind of friendship, trust, and understanding that feels dangerously rare.

I can’t stay away.

Late-night strategy sessions blur into quiet moments in empty stadiums, and before long, boundaries shift, fading the professional line we can’t afford to cross.

Because off-limits doesn’t begin to cover it.

She’s thirty-three to my fifty-two. I’m her boss. And when my daughter marries her brother, she’ll be family.

I’m not a man who wants things he shouldn’t. But I’m also not a man without regrets. The kind of relationship failures that follow a person around.

Keeley sees me in ways no one else has, and for the first time in years, I want to let someone else in. More than that, I want to deserve it.

But wanting her and being right for her are two very different things. The question is—which one of us will break first?

ARC REVIEW

This is my first Katherine Jay story and what drew my attention to it was reading this … “She’s thirty-three to my fifty-two. I’m her boss. And when my daughter marries her brother, she’ll be family.”, and if you know me at all … obvs I’m reading that! Funnily enough, it was not the least bit what I expected. Like you read that sentence and you think drama, right? Like it’s gonna be soap opera time up in this story. Well, it was and it wasn’t.

The drama was there from all angels, but it was never dramatic. Nothing popped or screamed “wow”, and I kept expecting something to pop because did you read that sentence?

One of the biggest disappointments I had with this story came from the friendship between Sal & Keeley. I was not witness to it. I never got to experience any of it and that’s a huge part of a romance journey. So, I was really bummed when we didn’t even get flashbacks or something! The only thing I know for sure is that it happened somewhere between the prologue and chapter 1, sixteen months later. So the story begins as them being the best of friends and then it takes almost 40% before anything past friendship happens. What? And the thing is, I wasn’t bored those 40%, per say, but I sure was a little twitchy. I wasn’t bored because there is a lot going on in this story outside the romance of two people. A lot. And most of it is unresolved issues from past books. (I have KU so I was able to download and skim) Which leads me to my second biggest disappointment. Please do not let anyone tell you that these are standalone books because they are not! #fightme They are more than interconnected, they are connected, in my humble opinion. If you don’t want to fell like me, please begin this series with the first book. You can thank me later.

So, as you can tell, this was not a #winning experience for me, however, now that I know her style, I’ll be better prepared next time I decide top ick up a book by this author and I’m kind of invested in this team and these people so I might just start at the beginning and not skim. *shrug*

When she’s not lost in a fictional world (writing or reading), she’s travelling, falling down a binge-worthy TV series rabbit hole, or letting the perfect song absolutely wreck her.

Katherine lives in Australia with her husband and two boys, which means she’s constantly outnumbered and wouldn’t have it any other way.
