ARC/ALC Review
When I finished The Hotshot back in February, I was completely smitten with all of these guys already, but I wasn’t prepared for how much more my heart would pitter-patter for Foster! THIS.MAN. I already had a hint based on the few things revealed about him in The Hotshot that he might be a man with some heavy circumstances to overcome but they didn’t even touch the surface. At first, I thought this story was going to go in a direction I wasn’t going to be a complete fan of, so I did put off reading/listening to the very last minute and then when it didn’t, I was so upset with myself for not trusting this dynamic writing duo! Someone come slap me! LOL Seriously, just slap me right now! That’s the only detail I’ll give on my brain shenanigans because I’m already embarrassed enough and no one needs to know details! Anywho, let’s move on to the good stuff …
Foster and Callie were both characters that not only did I root for as individuals, but as a couple as well! I could not have asked for a more perfect storyline and growth for them both. They genuinely were each other’s “person” as they say, and their story was authentic and relatable and very real! Not a single point felt forced or overly dramatized and every circumstance was wrapped in emotion. Whether that emotion was one of levity or gravity, I felt its force deeply. GAH, I love this story so much! (someone seriously needs to slap me)
I love that these ladies have locked down such a powerful team of narrators because this group of friends/teammates are part of each other’s lives in a “till the grave” kind of way and having them perform this story in duet-style makes the audiobook really stand out. It allows audiobook junkies like me to recognize the characters from the very beginning because they’ve all been narrated by the same narrator from the beginning of the series. Obviously, because I was ridiculous, I did not read separately from listening to the ALC and rather took the opportunity of having the ARC as a way to highlight some pivotal moments for myself and let me tell ya, there were a lot! Because again, I LOVE THESE TWO PEOPLE SO DARN MUCH!!
