Nothing could prepare them for what was to come.
Kylie
I learned early in life that love isn’t just given, it’s earned.
Now I’ve decided love isn’t worth it.
At least that type of love.
Until him.
He was broken.
It was safe.
But then I went and did the unexpected.
I fell in love with him, knowing he would never love me back.
Knox
I thought I had it all.
I was playing hockey in the NHL.
Three beautiful kids and a wife who loved me.
Until I walked in on her in bed with my brother-in-law.
Everything I thought I had was a lie.
She was everything I thought I didn’t want, and when I least expected it.
I just hope when I finally figure it out, I haven’t lost her for good.

ARC/ALC Review
A couple of “housekeeping” issues I have with this story …
✔️ The situation between Knox and his family, especially his sister, was … *blink* I’m not sure what disappointed me more, the fact that it wasn’t fleshed out even though it had a huge impact on Knox or that it was even part of the storyline as much as it was. What happened to Knox is a huge act of betrayal on all kinds of fronts, from the mother of his children to his parents and his sister. As soon as all those betrayals came to light, the story lost a huge amount of joy for me and Knox’s personality did not help at all in bringing that joy back.
✔️ Let’s talk about the mother of his children … why? That’s truly all I have. Who wrote her character? She comes back after her betrayal and propositions an “open” relationship. What? She just kept coming back … make it make sense.
✔️ A few thoughts about Knox. Look, I know the man has been dealt a bad hand, but his many, many “fly of the handle” moments were a lot to swallow, and Kylie just turned the other cheek way too many times. Overall though, he was a really fantastic character and so was Kylie, and the were good for each other and I loved their dynamic.
By now, you might be thinking that I disliked this story, but I didn’t. Did I like the above mentioned circumstances plus some others, obviously not. Sure, I’m still wondering why the choice was made by the author to write these circumstances the way that she did, but it’s her book to write any way she pleases and if I’m being honest, nothing that happened in this book is out of the realm of possibility. So, she gets props for realism, it was just a lot for me at times! LOL Overall, I’d say I have a love hate relationship with this story more than anything else.
🎧Listening to an ALC of this story saved the day for me and having the ARC to refer to when I needed to really look at different circumstances a bit “slower” also saved the day for me. Gregory Salinas and Rose Dioro did an outstanding job with their performances. Both have a good range to their voices which makes listening to them in dual-style narration very pleasant. Their performance kept me “in” the story where I might have otherwise put it aside had I been reading. Perhaps. *shrug*
MEET THE AUTHOR:

When her nose isn’t buried in a book, or her fingers flying across a keyboard writing, she’s in the kitchen creating gourmet meals. You can find her, in four inch heels no less, in the car chauffeuring kids, or possibly with her husband scheduling his business trips. It’s a good thing her characters do what she says, because even her Labrador doesn’t listen to her…
