In my defense, this is all Brad’s fault.
I had one very important job: kidnap Brad.

I’ve never kidnapped someone before but how hard could it be? Find Brad. Snatch Brad. Deliver Brad to the very scary people who hold my fate in their hands.

So when a handsome, flirty stranger at the bar drops his name, I think my luck has finally turned. No chase. No fight. The man practically throws himself in my trunk, smiling like it’s a treat to be taken, like he wants me to have him.

The only problem? “Brad,” the charming and slightly unhinged man I’ve been keeping hostage for days, may be the most dangerous man of all.

Now I’m knee-deep in a life of crime I never signed up for. Tangled up with a man I never meant to take—and definitely never meant to fall for. And I’m staring down the barrel of a gun for mistakes I never should’ve made.
Because everyone knows The Firm never forgives a debt… and they always collect in blood.

This isn’t my first kidnapping. Not by a long stretch.

But it is the first time I’ve been on this side of it.

Not gonna lie—it’s a lot more fun than I thought it would be.

It probably has a lot to do with the butterfly who cast himself in the role of my kidnapper.

A very sexy kidnapper. God, what I wouldn’t give to fuck it. I don’t even care that he knocked me in the temple with my own dagger. I’d totally forgive him if he let me fuck him.

That’s probably not what I should be focusing on right now, but honestly, this situation isn’t bothering me. It’s not like I couldn’t get myself free if I tried.

I suspect letting myself be taken will be far more interesting. It’s been a while since anyone’s captured my interest.

And this butterfly now has one hundred percent of my attention.

“Oh god, what do I do now? Oh fuck,” I hear him murmur. My eyes flutter open, a shot of pain moving through my temple, but I’ve had worse.

I watch him pace back and forth on the forest floor. He must’ve cut me loose, because I’m no longer upside down and I can feel leaves and twigs digging into my back. The moonlight filters through the trees, throwing the worried lines of his face into sharp relief.

At first, when he held my dagger in his hand, I thought maybe he planned on killing me.

Seeing as I’m still very much alive, I’m going with kidnapping instead.

Even if Ansel doesn’t know I’m part of The Firm, I’m still a Buckingham. We’re known to fetch a pretty penny. Or we would be, if the kidnappers ever made it that far.

No one has survived to collect a ransom yet.

Ansel rakes his hands through his hair. For someone who clearly had a trap laid, he doesn’t seem very confident in his abilities. “I don’t know what to do.”

“You should tie me up,” I say softly, and he jolts slightly, his eyes widening.

“What?”

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

(From my review of Covenant, Book 1 of The Firm…The shadowy Firm was a good bad guy, secretive, untouchable, and hidden deeply in the shadows).

Ansel is a hacker who gets himself into trouble. Ordered to kidnap a guy named Brad. He succeeds. But for a man being kidnapped, Brad is surprisingly cooperative. What Ansel doesn’t know is he’s got the wrong guy. Brad/Cade is so enjoying his adventure with this guy that he’s been toying with him and has decided Ansel is his. Ansel knows something is off but not exactly what. When he finds out, he knows he’s in to deep to save himself because even though he refuses to acknowledge it, Cade is his. Once again great characters placed into impossible situations. Discovering the only way out is together.

I really like Cade’s brothers. A family who shows their deep love for each other with fists, threats, blood (theirs, or someone else’s, doesn’t matter), and family game time that would send normal people screaming into the night.

The Firm is present and integral to the story but it’s almost pushed into the background in favor of the characters. Household staff are funny and appealing.

Once again the author scores. Mystery, a lot of sizzle, and interesting family dynamics, make this book a pleasure to read.
