ABOUT THE BOOK:

When you burn down your contractor’s home… and kind of, accidentally invite him to move into yours.

First things first, that fire was a fluke. A tragic, completely unintentional byproduct of high emotions, an ill-timed backyard grilling… and one very shirtless man.

I only meant to confront Brewer—my maddeningly stoic contractor—about a few small concerns with the renovation of my historic money pit.

Instead, I got distracted by his muscles (who grills shirtless in February, I ask you?), I tripped over my words—and my feet—and… well, my carefully-ordered life went up in flames.

Suddenly, Brewer’s living in my attic, his dainty teacups are in my cabinet, his slobbery dog is all up in my business, and I find myself renovating my whole future just as surely as Brewer’s renovating my home.

Copper County was never my endgame. Once I finish writing my article, I’m off on my next assignment. But between late night conversations, sledgehammer therapy sessions, and solving the Jam Cupboard Mystery (it’s a real thing, I promise), I’m starting to think we’re building something neither of us expected.

Because the more I learn about Brewer, the more I realize I’m not the only misfit in Copper County. And that maybe it’s time I stop chasing other people’s truths… and start writing my own.

Delaney is stubborn and wants his house remodeled his way. Nothing that his stubborn contractor Brewer suggests works for him. It’s Delaney’s way or nothing, until it’s not. One was running from his past and one was running toward his future. When they collided it was sweet.

The denizens of Copper County are a mixed lot. Odd, noisy, and caring. The town is all about looking out for each other and in the way of small towns, everyone is in everyone else’s business.

It seemed the author went to lengths to keep the book light and relatively angst free, which I appreciated. Sometimes a happy story just hits the spot. This has been a solid series for me.

The Pretenders of Copper County by May Archer
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

When sweet, virginal, extremely naive Chris was picked up by a government protective agent he thought it was a date. Since it was his first date he was very thrilled until he realized he was being kidnapped. Reed was perplexed by his new charge. Chris was nervous, overly talkative, mostly unintelligible, and very fond of charcuterie. Reed’s protective detail entailed keeping Chris safe from his uncle’s enemy’s. It also by default meant keeping Chris safe from himself which turned out to be a job and a half because Chris could probably get into trouble in his sleep. Their feelings soon got the better of them. But…Reed “wasn’t in love. He was just… really fond of charcuterie.”

I liked finally learning Reed’s story but I thought it should of been told in in a different series instead of the author beginning a new one.

This book was mostly enjoyable and laugh out loud funny in places. Although Chris’ dimness did get tiring at times and that’s probably why I didn’t give it more stars.

The Rivals of Copper County by May Archer
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Watt was dating shy, not having found anyone he wants to spend time with. He’s very content with his life. When his former best friend/rival Jasper returns to Copper County, Watt wants to hate him but he just can’t. Their history is too strong. Jasper returns to Copper County to settle his great aunts estate. He’s afraid, but looking forward to rekindling his friendship with Watt. What he didn’t expect was Watt’s anger.

Copper County, small town America, full of offbeat characters and fluffiness. Always something going on to keep the town hopping. The drama between Watt and Jasper was really just foreplay and the whole town (except an annoying, persistent woman) knows it.

I liked the characters and the town. It had all the elements I need for a successful book but I just didn’t feel that they flowed together well. I will continue reading the series because some of the characters are delightful. Though I wish the book had been better for me personally it’s still worth reading. Now I must go make a charcuterie board.
