Matteo is book one in the brand spanking new series, Legacy of Heathens. This is a second generation, sisters fiancé, friends to lovers, mafia romance. This book has dark themes and elements so read your trigger warnings.
Matteo was super alpha and over the top protective and possessive. He will go to extreme measures to get what he wants, like father…like son. He also had a romantic and sweet side only reserved for Arianna. Honestly, I felt he had the patience of a Saint putting up with Arianna and her stubbornness.
Arianna for me was hard to like. When she started coming out of her shell and becoming strong and independent she would revert back and disappointed me. I know twins are super close and bonded tight, but I felt she was way too invested in her twin and ignorant regarding anyone and anything else. She never truly chose Matteo even though he always chose her no matter what and that was disheartening.
This was a meaty book and contained all the things you expect from an Eva Winners book; violence, angst, plot twists, humor, spice, action, a happily ever after, and so much more. I really enjoyed meeting most of the second generation as adults and seeing who they grew up to be. Their story was riddled with Easter eggs on what’s to come for the supporting second generation characters. It will be interesting to see if Nikola can top his uncle Sasha in lunacy.
