Everleigh
One night changed my whole life.
After the truth about that night came out, I left, taking my broken heart with me.
I knew the past was waiting to slice me open again.
But I was left with no choice but to go back.
Feelings and old emotions are like dandelions; no matter how many times you pull them out or try to get rid of them, they refuse to go away.
And he was that for me.
My everything until he was my nothing.

Brock
My father taught me about honor and integrity.
And in one split second, I ruined it all.
I lost the only dream I ever had and everything I ever wanted.
But I had no choice.
I tried to move on with my life.
I put all my focus on my daughter, never expecting to see the one woman I’d loved and lost.
They say time heals old wounds.
They were wrong.
Scars left from the past are easy to reopen.
I just hope I can survive the pain all over again.

Hmm… I’m not sure how I feel about Brock. Well, that’s not true — I don’t like him at all. His anger toward her seemed unfair to me. I understand he was still a kid, but come on, man, you made your bed, and she wasn’t obligated to lie in it. I don’t even want to start with the timeline of his choices after she left. So yeah… not a fan!

But Everleigh is a completely different story. I mean, I wanted to slap her when they first got back together, but love will make you do crazy things, and she is the definition of that. I loved that she never backed down from anything. She gave as good as she got, and the only problem I have is that she gave him the time of day once again.

It pains me to say this, because Natasha is my favorite author, but this time around, I’m giving it a 3.5* rating.

🎧🎧AUDIOBOOK REVIEW🎧🎧

Well, I did what I said I would do and went back to reading the first book in the series before I began listening to this story. The second book was fresh enough in my head that I didn’t need to re-listen to it to get the experience I was looking for. When I read the last book back in January (without having read the first in the series) I honestly did not have any ”hmmmm” moments and felt like it could truly be read as a standalone. Now having finished with Buried Dreams, I’ve got a different perspective and I don’t recommend reading these books as standalones. Just my opinion, but this group of six people should be understood as a group, and not just as individuals, and the only way you are going to get their dynamic is by starting at the beginning.

Okay now, about Buried Dreams and Everleigh and Brock …

Another rollercoaster of emotions that began at the beginning of the story and never really let up. The story straddles the line of “emotion” (no matter the kind) at every point. I wouldn’t expect less from a second chance story born from a tragic event in the past. I don’t want to say that the story was what I sometimes call “sexually fueled or driven,” but there was definitely a fair amount of sexual force in the story that maybe could have been scaled back to give the romance a more focal point. I don’t think sex and romance are mutually exclusive, quite the opposite, they should haven in tandem, but they shouldn’t overshadow each other in a story. It becomes repetitive and makes this listener tend to fast forward too many times. Feel me? LOL

I love the connection that Everleigh had with brock’s daughter Sage and the dynamic all three had together. I love it when children are present in the story of a single parent. Too many times, they’re in the background and that never makes sense to me because children always comes first in my mind, so it would be impossible to begin any relationship (past the meeting stage) without having the child present as much as possible in the building of the relationship.

Last this about the story itself is to tell you that I don’t consider this an “easy” story. There are circumstances that are part of this story stemming from “the accident” that are very much “real and realistic.” There are rainbows in this story but there are also serious storm clouds and Natasha Madison takes all of these circumstances and respectfully and realistically builds sunshine out of them. Feel me? Do with that information what you will!

🎧 I didn’t think I’d have time to listen and read an early copy of this story so I went with an ALC only because I knew that 🎙️Gregory Salinas and Savanah Peachwood 🎤 would do a fantastic job with Brock and Everleigh and their story. I’ve listened to them both many times and they have both been exceptional narrators in any and all roles I have had the pleasure to listen to. They brought this story to life for me and captured my attention for every minute of the 8 (ish) hours they were in my ears! 👏👏👏👏

MEET THE AUTHOR:

When her nose isn’t buried in a book, or her fingers flying across a keyboard writing, she’s in the kitchen creating gourmet meals. You can find her, in four inch heels no less, in the car chauffeuring kids, or possibly with her husband scheduling his business trips. It’s a good thing her characters do what she says, because even her Labrador doesn’t listen to her…
