Sometimes all you get is a single chance to turn a surprise into happily ever after…
Chance
One night. That’s all I wanted.
A single night to forget I’m a widowed single dad with a million responsibilities and a ton of emotional baggage. To remember what it’s like to just be a man.
I didn’t need any extra drama in my life. Romantic complications? No thanks.
But after that night, everything changed. Forever…
Rowan
Having a one-night stand with a sexy, older stranger was not part of my plan.
All I wanted out of this small town was a place to recover. A fresh start. Maybe even a little New Year’s Eve fun.
I had no way of knowing my hot hookup would be my new co-worker.
Or that I was actually way more fertile than I’d been led to believe…

“Is everything okay, Rowan?”
She didn’t respond, seemingly deliberating with herself. I took another step toward her desk, confused, my concern growing.
“Yeah.” She flashed a tired smile. “I’m good. What are you doing working late?”
“Just got done with a meeting. I’d ask you if you read Chloe’s email yet, but I’m thinking you haven’t checked lately.”
“Email about what?”
I sat in the chair facing her desk. “She has too much on her plate. Holden convinced her to hand off everything marketing related to you.”
“Marketing,” she repeated. “You’re the marketing director. So I’ll be working with you,” she concluded, not smiling. “You all realize I know nothing about marketing, right?”
“You’ll do fine. As long as you can work directly with me?”
For the first time, I wondered if she was more uncomfortable than I’d realized because of our history. She’d seemed to handle working for the same company okay, as if our night together had been almost nothing. That sucked for me, but it was better than the opposite extreme. I did not need a clinger.
When she didn’t reply, my concern grew.
“Rowan? What’s going through your head?”
She averted her eyes and bit her lower lip, then straightened as if making a decision. “Could you close the door?”
I frowned, unease exploding in my gut. Instead of mentioning there was no one left in this part of the building, I stood and did as she asked. Retaking my seat, I said, “What’s going on?”
Rowan leaned her elbows on her desk and ran her hands over her face. As she lowered them, she nailed me with intense but tired brown eyes.
“There’s no way to ease into this,” she said, sitting up straighter. “And this isn’t the right place for this discussion, but I’m not sure there is a right place. I’m pregnant, Chance.”

🎧📚AUDIO & EBOOK REVIEW📚🎧
My absolute favorite single dad of Dragonfly Lake! *heart eyes*
Chance isn’t my favorite single dad just because he’s swoon personified, it’s also because of the journey he had with Rowan to the ❤️sweet spot❤️ #IYKYK It was kismet and such a joy to have their story take up space in my head. The performances by Sebastian York and Emma Wilder could not have been better, especially Emma’s. Her range and versatility captured every emotion phenomenally and I’m pretty sure that’s what had me sobbing in places! I still maintain that Sebastian should always be doing duet narrations because the man is just *sigh* not that great with female or child voices! LOL I love him as a male character, but he reeeeeeeeally just can’t pull off a child, and a girl at that! LOLOLOL
Rowan’s journey to a new beginning was heartfelt and also had me sobbing many times. I’ve been down her journey before and I’m about to be deep into it again and it is not for the faint at heart. I’ve never had to journey this path on my own and that leveled up my empathy for her. This is not a journey one should ever have to take alone because it is heartbreaking, and it can easily drown you. Amy Knupp did an exceptional job making sure it was realistic and relatable. None of it was overly dramatized yet all of it was organically dramatic. Thank you for that. I appreciate my fiction realistic.
Chance’s journey with his daughter was fraught with landmines, just as it should have been for a girl of her age. He also comes with quite a bit of past circumstances to hurdle of his own, which I loved because it evened out the playing field. It made them both, at all times, equally invested. Does that make sense? LOL
I loved how Sam, Chance’s daughter, connected with Rowan, in her own way and not just as the daughter of the man that Rowan was interested in. Make sense? It’s like they both needed Rowan, but in different ways, which made the journey as a whole, that much more poignant.
I have loved every story that I have devoured by Amy Knupp thus far. She is truly gifted and if you’re in the mood for smalltown romances with all the feels, I recommend any book of hers!
