Sooooooooooooooooo, I did a thing. #IYKYK lol
Back in July of this year I experienced my very first Jade Dollston story and I was SHOOK! The ALC for Love Without Numbers came up for review and new-to-me author is my catnip so I jumped, plus the two narrators were on my fave list so I mean … obvs. Anywho, after I was done fangirling like a lunatic, I thought I could wait until the next book, Love Without Influence, came out in audio to move forward. Bwaaahahahhahahah, as if! I lasted a little over and then I saw the promotion for this book and was like “yeah, I’m done waiting”! So I used KU and devoured the book and OMG, I was shooketh AGAIN! I mean … wow.
Let me reiterate … I still maintain that everyone that did not put this author on my radar before last July is fired! But let’s chat about Love Without Demands!
You think someone instinctively knowing the one at first meet is not a “real thing” and only happens “in the movies (okay, I am the *you* in this scenario) but then … in this very moment (lol) I am picturing Jade Dollston asking me to hold her beer! THIS.STORY. It had such a true-to-life, relatable, and realistic soul that I swear I was reading a story of 2 non-fictional characters, and I found myself believing in things that I think only happen fictionally to non-fictional characters. I was in this story, and they were my people! And I know that sounds weird AF, but when you have the talent this woman has with words, it’s a perfectly legitimate and sane thought process! LOL
There’s a lot of reasons I loved this story but the biggest reason is the “edge of your seat” your brain is in the entire journey. That phrase is normally used when there’s a mystery/suspense plot, but that’s not how I’m using it. I was on the edge for the next moment; the next scene; the next discovery; the next everything. I couldn’t read fast enough, and I hate that I’m 54 and my eyes do not want to cooperate like they did in my 20s!
As a reader of many many books, it’s not that easy to highly impress me. Jade impresses me because of the realism in her stories. Realistic fiction is where its at for me. I dislike adults not adulting properly and I dislike thrown in conflicts that make less than zero sense to the story as a whole and I strongly dislike drama for dram’s sake. I like story that are impactful and credible so I can believe in the HEA because if I don’t believe it, what’s the point? Obviously, Jade has done all of this and thrown in a bag of chips on the side! I’d like to be her when I grow up. #TrueStory
