Welcome back!! I have missed you!
Sooooooo, my experience with Helena as of late has not been positive. To say I was apprehensive to invest energy and time on this story is quite an understatement. I’ve just been so disappointed for what seems like years that it took me forever to sign-up with Good Girls PR for the ARC & ALC. You guys, there was anxiety! LOL But I did it, and here we are … I was so overjoyed thru the listening processes that I kept stopping the audiobook so it would not end. And the, I waited about a week to read the ARC to see if I’d missed anything from the audio because this is the Helena I know and love and this story represents all the things that make Helena Hunting one of my fave authors!!
Sidenote: It does not matter which way you enjoy this romance journey, audio or ebook, you will get an outstanding story full of heart and humor and swoon *happy sigh*, but, I’m in my audiobook era and I have to say the audiobook gave me the best joy :) Stella Bloom and Zachary Webber have been good to my ears in the past, and their performance as Peggy & Hollis was spectacular!
There’s like over 1000 reviews already out there telling you this book is great, so I’m not going to expand on that. I would like to say two thing though …
✔️ Peggy was written perfectly as a young adult and every decision and circumstance that surrounded her character was on-point, in my opinion. I normally dislike reading *young people* because their decision processes, although realistic for their *youngness*, make me want to poke my eye with an icepick and I have zero patience for their shenanigans. I do not know why Peggy did not get on my last nerve, but she didn’t *shrug* I was rooting for her. I enjoyed her. WHO AM I?
✔️ I’m not a fan of the plot-point surrounding Roman being clued in to Hollis & Peggy’s romance. It was cliché and trite and the story deserved better. It took joy away from my experience and I hate it even more because of it. The third-act break-up (if you can call it that) was no better. So I lost joy :( (hence the 4 stars)
Overall, I am overjoyed that my Helena is back baby!!!
