First of all, because I can be ridiculous about covers, I need to say that this is the purest representation of this story and I am here for it!! Please never change it!
Okay then, on to this story …
I’ve read/listened to a whole lot of stories written by this dynamic duo and they haven’t always been a huge hit for me but this story captured me heart mind and soul from the very beginning and I may still be swooning over the entire package right now days after finishing! There is a lot to enjoy about this story and practically nothing to pick about. I love those kind of reading experiences because I’m never thrown off from the story. I believed in Ben & Gillian from the start and as they grew throughout the story, I belief in them grew stronger. Their chemistry was undeniable and as a reader I could feel their connection from the start. I loved that Ben’s return to his hometown was not based on any kind of injury or tragedy with his career. I loved that the past was acknowledged but not dragged into the present, it was of course a circumstance they both needed to push past but it was done in a realistic and relatable way and not in an overly dramatic way. It was dealt with, and they grew. Adults adulting properly is my super jam! LOL
This isn’t the first book about high school sweethearts who thought they’d be together forever but then one makes a decision, and their lives are altered, but somehow, this author duo made it unique in their own right. It’s their style and voice. I long ago fell in love with their writing and have tried to devour every word they’ve ever written (over and over again in some cases) and I will continue to do so as long as they gift us with stories because there is always emotion, humor, heart and a whole lot of hope infused in their stories and it is a pleasure to get lost in their characters for a handful of hours at a time!
