Lane is a singe parent raising his daughter Briar. When she showed up with a prosthetic leg he knew he would probably have to “explain that his child was an up-and-coming organized crime boss who was apparently now targeting disabled people.”.

Lane was mentally abused by his wife. Leaving him stressed, unsure, and incredibly lonely. The prosthetic leg belonged to Bowen, conveniently a nanny, who rides in to save the day.

I really enjoyed these characters. They were both damaged by people in their pasts. Both suffered at the hands of partners and in Bowen’s case he also had to deal with losing a leg. The author made them strong by making them vulnerable.

This author writes complex characters who tug at the readers heartstrings. Their books are angsty without being to maudlin and this one was full of steamy times.

I adored klepto Briar. She is one of the most joyful characters I’ve ever read. Even her temper tantrums were cute.

The villain here was Briar’s mom. Thoroughly unhinged and unlikeable. The other characters were supportive and interesting.

This is a very promising start to a new series. Looking forward to the next book.
