So when the incredibly thoughtful aforementioned boyfriend books a romantic New Year’s getaway at a quiet little hotel in the wilds of the north yorkshire moors and away from London, Tristan can’t wait.
But as usual nothing ever goes according to plan. Snowed in during an unexpected murder mystery weekend at what turns out to be one of the most haunted hotels in Northern England is not what they had in mind, and when one of the actors turns up really dead not just fake dead, they once again find themselves caught up in another investigation.
With only one night to figure out who the killer is while wrangling a multitude of overly helpful ghosts, Tristan begins to wonder if romance really is dead…

Tristan and Danny are a year into adjusting to their relationship and Tristan’s affinity for seeing ghosts. Tristan is extremely happy about him and Danny’s sex life, “Seriously, with the way he moves, the man should come with his own Bee Gees soundtrack.” Danny even wants to propose but the ghost-blocking keeps getting in the way. Stealing away for a mini vacation isn’t going to make it any better. All sorts of new ghosts and a …gasp…murder just add to the mayhem.
This book was great fun. More convoluted than usual and it felt like the cast of ghosts was in the hundreds. “Danny turns to me. F****** hell, it’s like trying to herd a group half made up of enthusiastic puppies and half of feral cats that hiss and spit.” (He wasn’t wrong).
The author’s imaginative use of costumes adds to the flair of the story. As does the ring burning a hole in Danny’s pocket. I have to admit I didn’t see the resolution of this murder coming.
