First of all why is everyone and I mean EVERYONE on Miguel’s case? The whole time I was reading it felt like him being punished for leaving his hometown and trying to make something out of his life. Even when they cleared the air it left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth.
I liked Miguel. He was struggling with his life. After things went south with Rebecca 3 years ago it felt like he was floating around looking for his harbor. Who would have thought coming back home would give him the answers to all his problems.
Rebecca has had a huge responsibility on her shoulder for a very long time. She too is trying to fit in and live her life. Having her ex back is not something she wanted but having closure might bring her more than she ever hoped for.
This story started growing on me around 60%… The people in their hometown were not my favorite and it did bring down my rating a bit. But having a second chance and being able to finally take it was a joy to read after all the drama at the beginning.

It Should Have Been Us is a second chance, small town, sports romance and the start of a new series, Bluebonnet Creek. This story was angsty, emotional, and was filled with a lot of heartbreak. You can definitely feel the love/hate vibe between Miguel and Rebecca. Their chemistry never went away though, no matter how much they fought it.
I didn’t really understand why everyone was so against Miguel all the time, especially when they didn’t know why he and Rebecca broke up. It was kind of odd. I really did like Miguel. He was an all around good guy and hard worker, but for whatever reason he was misunderstood, mostly by his family.
I did feel Rebecca screwed him over a lot. Like she really was never honest with him from the start but constantly pointed the finger at him and never really herself. It kinda angered me. She does go through a lot of turmoil and I feel like she went through so much in such a short amount of time in her life. With how much she went through it really showed her strength and perseverance, but nothing can outmatch that girls stubborn streak.
Overall the book was entertaining and enjoyable. This is a new to me author and I plan to continue with the series as I am very interested in the supporting characters that appeared in this story.
โI never cheated on you. Not once,โ Miguel growls. โNot back then, and not since. There has never been another woman for me.โ
My head whips in his direction, my mouth falling open. โW-What?โ
Miguel leans closer, so close his nose is brushing against mine, those dark eyes boring into mine, hard and unforgiving.
โThere hasnโt been anybody else, Rebecca,โ he repeats slowly.
My mouth falls open, tongue darting out to slide over my lower lip. โYouโre lying.โ
โIโm not lying,โ he whispers each word slowly, making sure there is no misunderstanding. โWere there a few girls before you? Yes, but they were just random hookups that didnโt mean shit. Thatโs all they were; hookups. You were my first.โ
I sink my teeth into my lower lip. I want to look away from the intensity in his eyes, but there is nowhere to look but at him. And I donโt know what to say, what to think about this whole situation.
What was the truth, and what was the lie? Did it even matter at this point?
Miguelโs gaze falls down, zeroing in on my mouth, and his voice turns husky. His fingers slide to my chin, his gaze holding me hostage.
โSince the day we got together, youโve been the only woman Iโve touched.โ His grip on me tightens. โThe only woman Iโve loved.โ He lifts his gaze to meet mine. โThe. Only. One.โ
