ABOUT THE BOOK:

We met a long time ago.
Our bond, instant.
And it didn’t matter that she was older than me.

At the time I didn’t see her as anything but an incredible woman who stepped up and cared for me when no one else would. Now, years later, Ingrid is the ‘mother’ of the club I’ve transferred to.
The thought of us wasn’t a fantasy for me back then.
But it’s becoming one now.
The problem is—she’s my president’s stepmom.
And her deceased husband was my father’s best friend.

To say it’s complicated is an understatement. As we develop feelings for each other, life-threatening curveballs are launched in her direction—and I’m the only one who knows.
While trying to keep her safe, the club is at war, the fight coming at us from multiple directions.
The chaos is real and unwavering.
But in the face of obliteration, we can do nothing else but stand tall because…
We are Defiance!

Obliterate is book seven and the final book of the NOLA Defiance MC Series. The book should be read in series order to fully understand the characters and plot, and because these books start where the previous left off. This is a reverse age gap, MC romance focusing on South and Ingrid.

South is persistent and supportive. He knows what he wants and he wasn’t afraid to go for it. He was really mature for his age. He’s also well versed with peope, he seems to fit in anywhere he lands and with most people he meets.

Ingrid was at one time the first lady of the club. She still holds a spot as somewhat the motherly figure in the club. She’s extremely loyal, loves and cares for everyone in the club fiercely. She always seemed more reserved so seeing this new sassy, foul mouthed side of her was interesting.

The plot was more predictable then previous books. There was the usual elements of action, plot twists, angst, violence, and banter. But I must admit I felt there were some issues in the story line. Like it was as if they forgot the betrayal from the Baroness in the previous book. Like that was a huge deal…so it to not play a factor or be mentioned was highly noticeable.

Additionally, I thought it was a little odd that the first time Hurricane calls Ingrid Mom is in this series, when she’s known them and has been their step mom since they were teens. And then the whole thing with South’s parents at the end was kind of strange. And still no mention of Cain and what the deal is with the Bachelors.

Anywho, I’d rate this book a 3.5. It was a great segway into what’s next, there’s a lot more to come with a new Defiance L.A. series coming, so I have no doubt we will see more of the NOLA Defiance. It will be interesting to see how things continue to grow with all Defiance charters.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I did a #BingeRead of this series this past summer so the entire crew was pretty fresh in my mind and so was the MC story arc when I dove into Obliterate and I really loved that for myself! I mean it doesn’t have anything to do with this review per say, but I just thought I’d share anyway LOL But let’s not digress …

The older woman trope is not a commonly used trope and it’s really not common in a genre such as this because of the whole male oriented atmosphere that is commonplace in motorcycle clubs. Not only am I glad that KE took this anomaly (for lack of a term) and went with it but I’m also pretty stoked on how the story turned out.

The story has the usual chaos and mayhem with the club itself which isn’t something I wasn’t expecting but on the flip side, I expected the arc of the MC to stay steady on the course it had navigated since the first book, but it didn’t seem that way. Remember, I have just read the last 7 books a few months ago so club “issues” are pretty fresh in my head and some of those weren’t written in the light that they had been in the past. So, that was a bit of a ”wait, what’s happening now…” moment for me on a couple of occasions. However, I can honestly say none of that really altered my overall enjoyment of the story itself. I mean it wasn’t great that it happened, but *shrug* … feel me?

I enjoyed very much the dynamic between South & Ingrid and how they navigated their ‘romance’ journey and also, I think KE did a really good job of utilizing this story as a segue to the next chapter without taking away any space from this story. I love KE’s wizardry with gritty mc stories and I’m looking forward to more Defiance in LA coming soon!!
