ABOUT THE BOOK:

I met the love of my life at ten years old.
At sixteen, I gave him my heart.
Three years later he was drafted to the NHL and moved across the country.
Five years after, heโ€™s back. And heโ€™s meeting his daughter for the first time.
I still hate him.
Even if my heart says thatโ€™s a lie.

At ten years old, she changed my life.
At sixteen, I told her I loved her.
Three years after, I left and broke her heart.
Five years later, Iโ€™m coming back home to the surprise of my life.
I hate her for it.
Even though my brain says this is all my fault.

โ€œLook at you.โ€ The words softly breeze at my ear. โ€œIโ€™ve never seen you so beautiful. Though I can imagine how damned gorgeous you were when your belly was swollen with Sadie. I hate you for not letting me share that. I also love you in fathomless amounts for gifting her to this world. Sheโ€™s everything, but sheโ€™s everything because this body protected her until she was strong enough to come into her own. Donโ€™t ever fucking hide that from me again.โ€

I have no response to that. Itโ€™s possibly the best thing anyone has ever said to me. Yet, Iโ€™m not ready to admit that to him.

The hand on my belly lowers, his fingers sliding under the thin lace barrier. Cillian still wears his jeans; the rough denim skates along my lower back at the same time a finger parts me and teeth nip at my earlobe.

โ€œI hated you for moving on,โ€ I say, gasping when his hand tightens the barest amount. โ€œI hated you for leaving me behind.โ€

โ€œI never moved on,โ€ he tells me, deep and angry. โ€œI didnโ€™t mean to leave you behind. You should have been with me, so I could keep you wet like this all the time.โ€

โ€œYou never asked me to go.โ€ Trying to focus on my anger is futile with his magic touch.

Rhymes is back with this new, second chance, sceret child, sports romance.
It was full angst, love/hate and sweet moments. There was also a perfect mix of drama, redemption and spice.

Rhymes has a knack for writing emotionally charged plots and this story was no different. It was heartbreaking and at times down right ugly. Cillian and Isla were young, dumb and in love. Like most of us they lacked experience and communication skills. I’d like to think we get better at it as we mature. These two fought an up hill battle, but they each got their redemption, second chance and happily ever after.
