Lies Like Love is book one in the new series Twisted Roses and focuses on Jude Carlisle and Felicity Alcott. I don’t know where to even start with this book. I didn’t love it, but I also didn’t hate it. I thought it was just OK. I think my expectations were too high after reading and loving the Enemy Muse series. This book was not what I was expecting with its dark elements, which I’m fine with, just caught me off guard. So make sure to read your trigger warnings if you’re sensitive.

The story was full of violence, angst, suspense, and plot twists, but I thought the pace was too slow. I couldn’t help but think that Jude could have saved so much time and heart ache if he just admitted the truth from the start. It just didn’t make sense to me. Also, I’m not sure about his friendships….why even bother calling them friends? They didn’t seem to trust or think highly of each other and it was just weird.

I did think that the bond between Jude and Fel during their teenage years was sweet. As adults the chemistry and their dance between love and hate was palpable. And their sex scenes were very steamy. Simmons does leave me with wanting to know more about the supporting characters, and I’m definitely prepared for the dysfunction and possible craziness.
