Leof/Leo, a human mated to an archangel. He gave his first life to try and protect his angel. Four thousand years later he tries again. Ferenc/Ferry…once the best and strongest of the archangels, now fallen. He fought on the wrong side and was punished. Losing his mortal mate he willingly accepted the job of ferrying dead souls to keep his mates soul alive until they could be reunited.
Ferry was an impetuous character. His willingness to sacrifice all for his mate was the basis of this book. Leo knew he was straight so his unexplained longing for Ferry was very angsty. Their relationship was sweet and very spicy once they finally got together. Their original backstory was fairly sparse. Details of their history together were revealed later in the book.
I liked Matty Leo’s brother and really liked Danny, Leo’s firefighter teammate. His secret was amazing and unexpected.
I liked the writing and will look for more books by this author. But there were so many characters to keep track of and it confused me. There is a series before this book called The Reckless Damned. I haven’t read them but the characters all appear here and the understanding of character interactions would improve this book immensely.
