Cottonwood Cove #3
Small Town, Sports, Enemies to Lovers Romance

ABOUT THE BOOK:
He’s the GOAT of the NFL. She’s a hot-headed reporter who despises him. They’re in the same small town for the summer. What could possibly go wrong?
I’m more than aware of the responsibilities that come with being a quarterback in the NFL.
The upside—I get to do what I love every day, which is play football.
And I make more money than I know what to do with.
The downside—everyone wants a piece of me, and the press stalks me ruthlessly.
And one reporter in particular, Brinkley Reynolds, has crossed a line.
She takes things too far.
So yeah, I have her escorted out of the press conference.
Imagine my surprise when the same woman walks into the coffee shop in the small town where I’ve gone to get some privacy for the summer.
I accuse her of stalking me.
She calls me every name in the book before proceeding to make me feel very unwelcome in Cottonwood Cove.
Her hometown.
The place where she tucked tail and ran after I’d unknowingly gotten her fired.
So now I’m enemy number one.
That’s fine with me.
I’m not the biggest fan of her either.
She’s equal parts stubborn and aggravating.
But she happens to be the sexiest woman I’ve ever laid eyes on.
So I try to make amends.
I’m not the devil after all.
But she won’t give me the time of day unless I agree to give her my story.
One I’ve fought hard to protect since the day I started playing professional ball.
I don’t owe Brinkley Reynolds anything.
So why am I considering giving her everything?

And the air left my lungs for the second time this week when I came face-to-face with my nemesis.
Enemy number one.
It didn’t help that he was painfully good-looking. And I wasn’t easily impressed by men. But this particular man was the whole package. He had the looks, the confidence, and the swagger to balance it all out.
And I despised him… obviously.
He was tall, with muscles straining against his white tee and broad shoulders.
Shoulders of the hottest quarterback in the league.
Green eyes. Blond hair. Chiseled jaw with a little bit of scruff.
The bastard.
He reached for the bill of his baseball cap and turned it around slowly as he met my gaze.
No one was up at the hostess stand, as Brandy was most likely helping the busboy, Lionel, who also happened to be her boyfriend, clear off the tables.
He glanced down at the apron that I was wearing, and his brows cinched together. I’d only put it on to protect the white blouse and skirt that I wore beneath it.
“You work here now?” he said, his voice low, and I didn’t miss the pity in his tone.
Nothing pissed me off more than being pitied.
Well, being escorted out of a press conference and being fired probably trumped being pitied, but I still didn’t like it.
I rolled my eyes. “That’s none of your business. What do you want?”
“I’m picking up a to-go order.” He squared his shoulders, and his face hardened.
It took everything in me not to laugh.
“You must be Captain Jack Sparrow?” I mocked.
“Just trying to keep a low profile,” he said, glancing around to see that the place was practically empty. “Hey, for the record, I didn’t know you’d lost your job over what happened at that press conference. I’m hoping you got a call today?”
Anger coursed through my veins. Who the hell did this guy think he was?
“I don’t need you sticking your nose into my business. I’m not taking that job back because I never should have been fired. I was doing exactly what I was supposed to do.”
“Just take the goddamn job,” he said, his jaw clenching like he was aggravated.
“Oh, I’m sorry if getting me fired has inconvenienced you. I’m going to write as a freelancer until I get hired by a magazine that respects its reporters. So, unless you want me to interview you, I’m going to treat you exactly the way that you treated me.” I slammed the bag of food against his chest and turned around and shouted to Lionel to come help me.
“You’re ridiculous,” he said with an annoyingly sexy smirk on his face.
He had no idea just how ridiculous I could be.

STORY REVIEW & RATING: 4.9 ++ STARS
This story made me ridiculously happy and lit me up from the inside from the moment I started listening.
Lincoln and Brinkley had passion even before they were passionate. Pavlov did an outstanding job of building their friendship while simultaneously building their romance. My heart was full thru the entire journey. Every plot-point of this story was full of emotion in one way or another and it was fantastic. Between the passion of the story and the outstanding banter between everyone, the #feels overflowed but never into angst territory. <<< I loved that!! There is depth to both Lincoln & Brinkley’s character development as individuals and as a couple, but it never crosses over to ‘angst’ territory, yet it was all deeply emotional. At least it was for me.
The Reynolds family dynamic in this story is strong and I loved that Pavlov took advantage of the sibling bond and made it part of the story. It added a whole lot of humor and depth to the overall ’family arc’ embedded in the series. This story stands completely on its own, so the previous books do not have to be read to understand any of the storyline, but I’ve been a huge fan of the family from the beginning so for me, it was just another glorious layer to my already fantastic experience!
Have you ever just read a story and been so happy with it that you find yourself not really knowing how to ‘review’ and just wanting to tell the world to ”just read it”? That’s me, right now, and it’s been me since I listened to this story almost a month ago. I don’t want to tell you the how or the why of anything because stories like this one should be experienced without anyone else’s prejudice. So that’s all you’re getting from me. DO THE THING. Seriously.
Are you wondering why my rating of the story is 4.9 instead of just 5 stars? Well, I’m gonna tell you whether you are or not LOL … I hated the conflict plot-point with Brinkley at almost the end of this beautiful journey. It was predictable and cliché and Pavlov is better than that. It felt lazy to me, especially the set-up of it. I don’t have an alternative because I’m not a writer, I just know it didn’t hit right with me. *shrug*

Ooo the love- hate relationship was spot on. I was laughing out loud the whole time I was reading this story. I’m not sure what I loved more, the sibling banter or Lincoln and Brinkley going at each other. These two really made my day.
Brinkley is back home trying to see where her life will take her next, after she was let go from her job while trying to get information from Lincoln. She is hell bent on hating the man, but that changes when he gives her the interview to ease his conscious.
Lincoln is trying to lay low after his season has ended in a small town in his agent house. He never expected to see Brinkley again. When he learns that she’s lost her job, he gives her the interview but under his conditions. Little did he expect that by doing so, he’ll find so much more. Their chemistry is off the charts and when did they finally give in? Perfection I tell you.
I don’t want to give too much away but if you can take one thing from this review is that you NEED to read this book. That’s it – READ IT NOW!
