Welcome to Fort Lauderdale—where the days are hot and the Knights are hotter.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Slava:
From the first moment I laid eyes on Zoe in that Paris nightclub I knew it was love. Nothing else could explain the intensity I felt for the petite blond. She wasn’t my usual type, but she didn’t even blink at my scars, muscles, and voracious sexual appetite. A big, burly hockey player, brought to my knees by a woman a fraction my size.

Everything was going great. Until I asked her to marry me. I’m Russian and she’s Swiss. The only way we can be together is if we get married, but she won’t even consider it. I don’t know what the hell I’m going to do, but leaving hockey to move to Switzerland isn’t an option.

Zoe:
When my ex-fiance left me at the altar, I was devastated. It took nearly three years for me to get over it and I vowed I’d never let anyone get that close again. Then I met Slava and realized I’d never truly been in love before. He’s everything a man should be—strong, sexy, successful, and tender. But I can’t marry him. I was going to lose him if I couldn’t get over my fears, so I did the only thing I I let him go.

When the past rears its ugly head, Slava is the only one who can save me. But letting him back in could destroy us both.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I’m slowly becoming a big fan of Kat’s work. She has a way of sucking you into the story and not letting go until the end.

Let’s get into it shall we?! I loved Slava. This has nothing to do with the fact that he’s from my part of the world, but he’s shown just how big his heart is where Zoe is concerned. Despite how she showed her support towards him by the end of the story, I’m not too sure if she’s the right woman for him. But then again they’re both young and have a lot to learn so I’m ok with how the story unfolded.

Overall this was a nice story about two people still figuring out how to navigate through life. Hopefully nothing bad will happen to them ever again.

GAH, I loved this story so much!!

Okay, so it took me a minute to figure out which aspect of the story was my favorite of favorites and I’ve decided it’s a combination of the slow-burn and destiny/kismet circumstance of Slava & Zoe’s journey. However, everything about this story is l.o.v.e. but I can’t just tell you all the things because then why would you read the book! Amirite?!

So, listen, Kat Mizera is an excellent storyteller. I started reading her books after I met her in 2017 at a convention here in Atlanta and pretty much haven’t stopped LOL Have I read every word she has ever published? No, but what I have read, which is many, have been really well put together stories that are real and relatable and have heart. I mean not every book has been a smashing hit for me, but there’s no arguing the woman can write and do it well. She pulled out all the stops with Rough Shot, imo!

The gist of this story is that Slava and Zoe had an instant connection but because of many circumstances they couldn’t make it work until they did! *heart eyes* That sentence is the slow-burn and kismet aspect all rolled into one without telling you a single spoiler. #winning LOL I loved these two and the circumstances they went through sometimes broke my heart, but they mostly made my heart soar because I knew they’d come out on the other side of things and was rooting for them from start to finish! You could feel their chemistry ooze off the pages and the care and patients they held for each other thru their journey was just *heart eyes* Also, secondary characters enhanced this storyline tremendously and I loved the sense of community it gave the story. They weren’t fighting for each other alone and that made me happy!

Okay, that’s it. That’s all you get from me today :) Now go do the thing :)

MEET THE AUTHOR:

USA Today Bestselling and award-winning author Kat Mizera is a South Florida native. Born in Miami Beach with a healthy dose of wanderlust, she’s called Los Angeles, Long Island, upstate New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Atlanta home. She’s never been able to pick which locale is her favorite, but if pressed, she’d probably choose the west coast.

A typical PTA mom with a wonderful and supportive husband (Kevin) and two amazing boys (Nick and Max), Kat can usually be found scrapbooking or indulging in her second love (after writing) – traveling. Greece is one of her favorite places in the world. She loves that Athens is a big city with a small-town feel. The food, beaches and culture keep her going back as often as possible.

Kat’s been a working freelance writer for nearly 30 years. She sold her first article–a review of a rock concert–for $10 in 1985. Since then she’s been an entertainment journalist, waitress, bartender, legal assistant, food critic, magazine editor, substitute teacher, and sports writer. She also spent some time working at A & M Records in Los Angeles.

As you can guess from her Las Vegas Sidewinders series, Kat loves hockey and occasionally writes articles about her favorite team, the Florida Panthers. The rest of the time, she writes novels: sexy, romantic fiction that she hopes makes you as happy as it makes her. There’s something enticing about hockey players and romance…
