“What the f*ck are you doing?” He snarls the words in my face as he pushes my back up against the wall.
“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
“I am not your abundant blessing, Delilah.” Pope’s hand wraps around my throat, keeping me firmly in the place he wants me to be.
“Maybe I’m yours.”
His head dips down and for an exaggerated second I float on pure euphoria that he’s finally going to kiss me. After so many years and so many more daydreams, I’m going to taste his taste.
Pope pulls away and the loss of that inch of space feels like a mile.
“Where are you going to get the money?”
“I have it, you actually came cheaper than I expected,” I say with a sweet smile to his narrowing eyes.
“You bought a date,” he emphasizes the word. “Nothing more.”
“Of course,” I say, incredulously. “No one here is being prostituted. I do expect you to show up, though. And you could at least be cordial, I’ve paid enough for that.”
“I’m not cordial to brats.” His thumb runs the column of my neck, under then over my chin, stopping when it lands on my lower lip. Like I did at our first coffee meeting, I stick my tongue out. This time wrapping it around his thumb in the same manner I would do to him elsewhere, if only he’d let me.
I see how I affect him. He shows me in the heavy rise and fall of his chest, the slight tilt of his head as he struggles to not give in, the flare of his nostrils when his body leans into me on its own accord.
“Sometimes I’m a good girl.”

Deconstructing Delilah is a retelling of the biblical story Samson and Delilah. This can be read as a standalone, but we first meet this characters in Brutal Player. This is an erotic, age gap romance. Rhymes has a knack for writing highly emotional, angsty, unique, very steamy, non-traditional love stories, and this story was no different.
The journey was somewhat tumultuous. Boundaries were pushed mentally, emotionally, and sexually. And then add in Pope’s domineerin and often times jerkish attitude and actions. Luckily, Delilah was stronger and more passionate then Pope could have ever imagined. Her character continued to blossom into a fierce woman, and she would not be deterred.
There were some interesting supporting characters that I’d like to know more about. *cough* *cough*…Dante! We also get glimpses of Noah and Lorelei (from Brutal Player) and get to see how their families grown. There may be some trigger-ish or sensitive topics touched upon. Go into this story with an open mind like you should with all Rhymes stories.

MEET THE AUTHOR: Alison lives somewhere in the shadow of a Pacific Northwest Mountain, bordered by the Puget Sound, and not too far from the country roads she grew up on.
When she’s not writing, she can be found avidly reading, traveling with youthful wanderlust, or slowly turning the inside of her home into her own personal houseplant jungle.
