Slow Dances Under An Orange Moon

(Colors of Love #4)

by V.L. Locey

Looking for a second chance romance with mature leads, a cantankerous grandpa, and an irritable goose? Then look no further!

Synopsis

Can the love they once shared be saved or has the pain of the past eclipsed it?

It’s been twenty years since Kye McLeod left the quaint little mountain town of Spruce Lake, Maine to play professional hockey. He’s had his share of ups and downs, but his choice to hit the big city and not look back has paid off handsomely. The future hall-of-famer is now ready to retire and come out of that dark closet he’s been sequestered in since his first secretive kiss with Davy Aguirre in high school. Now that he’s heading home to keep an eye on his feisty grandfather, there might be the chance to rekindle the flame between him and Davy.

Kye quickly learns that the boy he left behind isn’t the man he’s now knocking heads with. He always imagined grown-up Davy—who now insists on being called David—would be beyond the pain that Kye’s youthful blunder caused him, but now he’s not so sure. When the wildlife conservation officer squares off with the ex-hockey captain their connection is incendiary, and there are more than just fireworks. However, winning back the man he walked away from may not be as easy as he thought…

Slow Dances Under An Orange Moon by V.L. Locey

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I’ve enjoyed every book in the series so far and Touch of a Yellow Sun was one of my favourite reads of last year. I love the depth of character here with Kye, I quickly felt I knew him really well, and what blew me away with this story was the humour; seriously, it was laugh out loud funny.

We’ve got Kye, retiring from the NHL and returning to his hometown after 20 years to look after his elderly grandfather and *hopefully* pick up where he left off with his first love, Davy Aguirre. Things don’t quite to plan for our Kye and he certainly doesn’t get the reception he hoped for with Davy (quelle surprise!), and then there’s the cantankerous and hilarious Dunny, Kye’s grandfather—this old guy would give Vic Kalinski a serious run for his money in the snark stakes!

The banter here is so sharp it’ll cut ya! Watching Kye navigate life back in Spruce Lake was a joy to behold, he’s laid back but oh so determined and I was willing him on all the way. If you need a refreshing, relentlessly funny story full of heart, look no further, it’s right here.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Kye retires from hockey sort of glad to be done with his second love. He returns to his home town hoping to reconnect with his first love Davy. When Davy (don’t call me that, it’s David) shoots him down, Kye knows he has to bring his A game to get his man back.

This was such a fun story. Grandpa Dunny is a priceless character, full of charm, wit, and a hint of sadness. Samson the goose was also a leading character. Her dislike of Kye was very unreasonable, and after all Kye did for her too.

I love the authors hockey books. This series isn’t as much about the hockey as it is about the hearts of the characters. Although the pee wee players were pretty entertaining. Nice story with a lot of heart, love, a cranky old man and a few bad guys. Perfect for a cold winters day.

Slow Dances Under An Orange Moon by V.L. Locey
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I’ve finished this book and this is my third attempt to write a review… After being separated for so long it took a few bumps on the road to get past all the hurt and finally see that they were IT for each other.

I really wanted to dislike Kye, but his personality made that impossible. He knew he screwed up but was willing to do just about anything for Davy. I loved the fact that his love for him didn’t take away his sense for taking care of his grandfather. Together they made a great couple and as the words THE END came I found myself with a big smile on my face.

I’m looking forward to the next book because if the blurb is any indication – we’re in for a another great read.
