The only thing that stands in the way of my revenge is her.

The lying scheming daughter of the man who killed my parents. She has the secrets I need to bring down her father.

And I’ll do anything to get them. I will lie to her. Steal from her. Use her.

Ruin her.

It helps that our chemistry is explosive.

What I’m not expecting is for her to be so sweet. And so strong.

After so many years of lying and hiding, I finally have a place to call home. With people I can call a family. The Paintbrush Inn is my life now, and I won’t let anyone ruin it.

When sexy and world-weary Simon checks in to the Inn, I never expect him to glance my way. I’ve spent my whole life blending into the background. Being overlooked and ignored. It’s been helpful, even though it’s lonely. And he’s way out of my league.

But our attraction is powerful. Undeniable.

Because I can’t let anyone close. If the secrets I keep were to be revealed, my whole life would be destroyed. But something about Simon makes me break all my own rules. I’m letting him in to my home, my body, my life, never expecting he has his own secrets.

His own lies.

When the truth comes out, we’ll both be ruined.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

There was so much happening in this book right from the get-go, I don’t think I blinked much during the whole story. I enjoy a good revenge plot and this one pulled me in and didn’t let go till the very last line. I didn’t expect the book to be as all consuming; it’s such a complex plot and each character has so much input to the fabric of the story. Just when you think you’ve got things figured out, you realize you haven’t, at all; I didn’t know which way was up at times. You can read this as a standalone but it would be better to read the first books in the series just to get a bit more background because once you start this book, you’ll be flying by the seat of your pants and you’ll need your wits about you as it’ll demand your complete attention.

I honestly didn’t know what to think about Simon at the beginning but as the story progressed and I found out what motivated him, I rooted for him. He’s a former nerd and now a hotshot journalist and a man planning revenge for wrongs done long ago but are so deep-rooted that they control his every thought and action. He has to see his plans through but little does he expect that getting to know the real Penny, the object of his revenge plan. She makes him question things as he discovers her past hurts can mirror his own. The author doesn’t give too much away, kind of drip-feeding you the thoughts and motivations behind each character at just the right time and not a moment before. I couldn’t see a way forward for this couple, there was so much in their path to any kind of future, honestly, I don’t think I’ve met a book couple before who had so much going against them. I really don’t want to tell you more about the plot as it’s so involved and to do so would spoil the story. There are so many layers to this tale and the supporting cast all have vital parts to play; I’m particularly itching to know more about Bates, the mysterious guy who has such a hold over Simon for a favour done in the past.

I enjoyed this book and I found the writing style was quite different from most other books, it was very punchy and impactful and the story was gritty and emotional and blindsided you at times and definitely left you wanting more.

Ruin You by Molly O’Keefe

Is this your first read by Molly O’Keefe? If so, I’m really sorry!! This woman is a literary genius. I don’t think there’s a plot she cannot write the heck out of. This whole series has been so consuming that my mind is blown! On that note, this shouldn’t be read without reading from the beginning. I mean you can, but to really understand Simon and where he’s coming from, it’s best to start at the beginning with this series. That’s just my opinion.

Let’s talk about this story for a second … Intense, FOR SURE. Dark and angsty, A LOT. Sexually beautiful, OH YEAH! Well thought out, YOU BET YOUR ASS! Lol Man, it is always a trip reading a story by Molly. She makes sure to only give just the right amount of info to keep you glued, but not enough for you to even begin to guess the next move in a story like this. She surprised me time and time again! DO your selves a favor and get on this series!

Molly O’Keefe has always known she wanted to be a writer (except when she wanted to be a florist or a chef and the brief period of time when she considered being a cowgirl). And once she got her hands on some romances, she knew exactly what she wanted to write.

She published her first Harlequin romance at age 25 and hasn’t looked back. She loves exploring every character’s road towards happily ever after.

Originally from a small town outside of Chicago, she went to university in St. Louis where she met and fell in love with the editor of her school newspaper. They followed each other around the world for several years and finally got married and settled down in Toronto, Ontario. They welcomed their son into their family in 2006, and their daughter in 2008. When she’s not at the park or cleaning up the toy room, Molly is working hard on her next novel, trying to exercise, stalking Tina Fey on the internet and dreaming of the day she can finish a cup of coffee without interruption.
