Portayal is book 1 of the Whiskey Promises Series by new up and coming author A.R. Thomas. Portrayal looks to be her first release. This new adult, contemporary romance focuses on Jace Bennett and Lily Spencer.
Lily is independent, smart, a business owner, sassy, and can give as good as she gets. She has a lot of personal issues from her past that only her BFF knows about. She’s keeping a lot of secrets from Jace and when her past comes back to haunt her it may just blow up in her face.
Jace is an alpha and sometimes it can ve overbearing. He has control issues, jealousy issues, and quite the temper. But he also loves hard and when he’s all in he means it. His feelings for Lily have become borderline obsessive. Have is an enigma, it appears he may have a lot of skeletons in his closet but we don’t discover in any this book.
These two are quite the pair. They are both stubborn and crazy about each other. Although Lily tries to fight it, there is no stopping Jace and their chemistry and lust ultimately wins out. Their journey has been full of chase, tension, arguments, secrets, mistrust, jealousy and lots of sex. Sounds like a recipe for disaster, right?
This story was entertaining but a bit predictable. It honestly reminded me of the This Man series. The supporting characters were fun and contributed to a lot of funny moments. I have a strong interest in Cass and Sean as well as Harriet. Carl was a hoot, I loved his personality. This story does end in a cliff hanger so there’s a lot to come in the next book, we’ve only just scratched the surface.
Meet the Author
A. R. Thomas is an Author from England who writes contemporary romance with an edge. After being an avid reader (and away with the fairies) for years she realized she needed more than to be on the receiving end of a good book, she wanted to deliver one. What started as a hobby soon became an obsession, and as they say the rest is history.
Angsty, edgy, romance heavy . . . the perfect recipe for any love story, right?
A. R. Thomas lives with her son, and when she’s not supporting him from the sidelines at his latest sporting event, she is usually, lost to the thought of a book. She manages to make the most innocent of things sound dirty; it’s both a gift and a curse, but thankfully her friends encourage her.
