She’s been by his side since they were kids, but Levi Morgan has suddenly started to see his friend in a whole new, beautiful light. She’s everything he didn’t even realize he wanted or needed…until Abby signs up for a dating site. Now, Levi has competition in a way he’s never had before.

What happens when the lines between friendship and lovers begins to blur? Will Abby and Levi be able to navigate a new kinda relationship? When lies are exposed, will it threaten everything they could be together?

*Though part of a series, this book can be read as a standalone. It is intended for those 18 and over due to graphic language, descriptive sex, and the world’s most inappropriate grandparents.

Exclusive Excerpt:

Back on stage, Gage instantly starts heckling me about where I was with Crystal. I don’t bother telling him I wasn’t with her because he sure as shit won’t believe me. He’s one of those guys who latches onto something and won’t let go. Like a dog with a bone, he’ll keep needling me until I give him the juicy details. Only this time, there are no details to give, but that doesn’t matter. He’ll just accuse me of keeping my dirty little secrets to myself. We’ve been down this road before.

Grabbing my guitar, I give it a quick tune, making sure everything is just right. Dexter starts tapping out the beat on his drums, and Andy and I join in on guitar. Gage belts out the opening notes of “Ring of Fire” by Johnny Cash and the crowd goes nuts. It’s not the typical rock music we usually play, but when we find a good song that the fans love and we enjoy playing, then we go with it.

After another two songs, it’s time to slow it down. Gage heads off stage to take a quick break, and I step up to the mic. I usually sing backup, but for three songs during our show, I take the reins and sing lead vocals. This song is one of them. It’s my favorite song to sing because it’s Abby’s song.

Way back when we were in grade school, I caught her humming it as we walked home from school. She was going to help me work on our Constitution assignment at her place, which happened every week or so. That particular day, she was quiet, lost in thought, so I let her be. Suddenly, she started humming, and it didn’t take me long to catch on to the tune. She had the voice of an angel, I remember thinking, and wanted to beg her to sing something for me. I had already discovered my love for music, but knowing that Abby shared this passion with me was like kismet. When I asked her about it, she just shied away and hid behind her books. I went home and started working on that song on my guitar. It took a while, but eventually, I got it down, and have been playing it ever since.

I start strumming the opening notes of Jeff Healey’s “Angel Eyes.” Continuing to play the song I know by heart, I scan the crowd until I see her, standing in the back, a soft smile on her face as she sings along to the song. Everything and everyone around us just fades away. It’s as if we’re the only two people on the beach. The way she watches me kicks my heart into overdrive, because I know, when it comes to this song, she only has eyes for me. Not that I want her eyes on me or anything. I mean, we are just friends. But if it were something more than friendship, then I’d be the luckiest son of a bitch to have her there with me.

Closing my eyes, I sing the words I’ve known by heart for fifteen years to my best friend. I can picture her out there saying the exact same words at the exact same time. We’ve sung this song together for years. Not publicly, of course, because she’d rather strip naked and do the chicken dance in the rain in the middle of Main Street than to get on stage and sing. In the privacy of her apartment or mine, we’ve belted out the words on several occasions. Abby actually has a beautiful voice. She just refuses to let anyone but me hear it.

When I reach the end of the second verse, I open my eyes and scan the crowd. She’s still there, standing in the same spot, watching me and singing along. I give her a knowing grin as I finish off the song strong, singing it for her. For her because she loves it, not because it means anything more than that. She’s my friend, remember? We’ve covered this.

Why does it feel like I’m completely full of shit?

My Kinda Song by Lacey Black

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

First of all, I love Lacey Black’s writing since reading her Rivers Edge series. This book is the third book in the Summer Sisters series but can be read as a standalone if you’ve not read the first two. The series covers six sisters living in Juniper Bay and this book tells the tale of Abby Summer and her best friend, the man she has loved her whole life, Levi Morgan, EMT, volunteer fire fighter and guitarist in the local band, adored by all of the girls in town and the man Abby is besotted with. Life in the friend zone sucks and Abby finally has had enough. Enough of watching Levi blaze his way through various women and tired of always being there for him but never being ‘seen’ by him. The buck stops here, Abby is fed-up and decides it’s time to move on – it’s lost cause after all – and try and forget about any romantic future with Levi. She decides to try an internet dating site to help her do so and unbeknown to her, Levi‘s feelings for his best friend begin to shift and he starts seeing Abby in a whole new light and he’s hating the fact that she’s looking for a romantic relationship with someone else. He needs to do something about this fast because Abby with someone else? Just not gonna happen on his watch. But then lies come into play and forgiveness is needed. I absolutely love a friend’s to lover’s tale, and if you add in a dash of jealousy, I’m all over that. Some books like this are just okay and some are done very well and this is one of them. It just felt so natural and so real, I related to what was going through both the MC’s minds as they began to realise they felt more for each other than just being best friends. I loved the heat in this book, it’s one of the things I loved about the Rivers Edge series too, Lacey Black just tells it so well and her men are oh so delicious but very human and down-to-earth too. I really enjoyed this story, it was very sweet, but please don’t think sweet means light or without substance because it wasn’t, at all, it’s a tale that warmed my heart and I’m looking forward to the rest of the series.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

First of all can I say that I can’t believe that this is the first time I hear about Lacey Black or this series…
Where have I been hiding?!?!

OMG to say that I loved it is an understatement. Everything about this book is just perfect.

Abby and Levi have been best friends since forever and they are inseparable. But lately things have become a bit strange and that is because they have started to develop feeling that aren’t exactly friendly.

After seeing Levi with what Abby thinks is another in a long line of woman in his life, she is determent to leave her silly little crush behind her and decides to start with on-line dating. When Levi finds out about her plan he gets insanely jealous and decides to make a profile on the same page as her to protect her, since that’s what BF do right??

With the »help« of Abby’s sisters, Levi finally decides that enough is enough and he convinces Abby to give them a chance at something MORE than just being friends.

Quotes:
“I’m terrified I’m going to fuck up the best friendship I’ve ever had or will have. But do you know what? He asks, his eyes unwavering. Unable to respond I shake my head. My need to find out what has developed between us is greater. It’s like a carving I can’t quench. You’re my craving”.

The chemistry was HOOOOOT. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to see what happens next.

When Abby finds out that Levi betrayed her trust she almost leaves him – but soon she discovers that he didn’t do it to hurt her and that he loves her more than himself.

Quote:
“ My sweetest Abby,

There’s a rose here for every time I’ve thought of you since last night. A petal for every minute my heart bet for only you. Take the time you need, but know that I am thinking of you, my arms ready to hold you, my lips ready to kiss you, me heart ready to be given to you.
I’m yours. Always have been. Always will be.
Levi”

If you need a book that will make you smile then this one is for you. Can’t wait for Lexi and her book…I have a feeling it will be explosive!
Now if you’ll excuse me I have to start reading book 1 and 2 because I’m missing out. 🙂
