Is ignoring the heat a recipe for disaster?

Grant Twombley has it all—a successful career, a contacts list full of gorgeous and willing bedmates, and the ear of Los Angeles’s most prominent captain of industry.

But being Sebastian Shark’s right-hand man isn’t without its challenges. Messy ones. Unknown forces still work to take down Shark Enterprises, and Grant’s full focus is needed to protect their empire. But he’s sitting on a scandalous secret. A truth he can’t even share with his best friend. Until disaster strikes.

Rio Gibson carries dark secrets of her own. She hides them well…until her world is shattered. She holds Shark responsible, but the only person she shares her suspicions with is also the man closest to him—the giving, gorgeous man who makes her feel so many new and surprising things. Dangerous things.

But Rio’s used to handling the heat in the kitchen, and she can handle this challenge too. Getting out simply isn’t an option—no matter how bad it’ll burn in the end.

Grant’s Heat by Angel Payne
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Small note before I review: Technically, this book begins a new journey with Grant and Rio. However, Grant is a part of Shark Enterprises, and if you’ve read the previous trilogy then you know there’s a story arc with the company that is probably going to continue for a while. To better understand not only Grant, but Shark Enterprises, you really should read from the beginning. I think it all depends on what you’re looking for out of your reading experience. I’m the girl that hates missing anything or being told something in broad strokes as opposed to details so I start at the beginning with pretty much anything I read….do with that information what you will.

About this story …

I knew I was going to love Grant a long time ago. Truth be told, I already loved him while I read Sebastian and Abbigail’s journey. I already knew he would wow me with his maleness!! And wow he did! But let me tell you who stole the show with this one, Rio. After finishing the book, it is clear that the main focus/conflict of Grant’s trilogy is going to be Rio. I don’t really know any other way to put it. That alone makes the story overwhelmingly emotional. It deals with very sensitive issues. Rio’s circumstances are tragic and heartbreaking. These ladies wrote this story respectfully and with relevance and I couldn’t be prouder. I don’t want to go into too much detail on Rio’s circumstances, but they could be triggering for some readers. I was on the edge of my seat with every passing chapter of this story. The ending, as per usual with these ladies, was powerful and while not exactly surprising, it was still very much an edge of your seat moment. I was emotionally spent when I finished this book and I’ve never been gladder for a story to have a pause to it.

I am very much looking forward to reading how Rio and Grant navigate the next phase of this journey. I am hoping for a more focus on them moving upwards together but something tells me Rio has a bit of a battle she has to slay of her own before that can happen. We shall see …
