Dax (A Royal Protectors/Sidewinders Crossover) by Kat Mizera

(A Royal Protectors/Sidewinders Crossover)
by Kat Mizera

This time he’s playing for keeps…

Rugged hockey star Dax O’Day has always had a thing for his best friend and teammate’s twin sister, but that’s a line you don’t cross. Not in hockey, and definitely not in life. He just can’t stop thinking about her, and when she turns to him for help, there isn’t a chance in hell he can refuse her—even if it means getting his hands dirty.

Beautiful and brilliant, Isla Campbell is a physics professor who comes from a titled Scottish family. She’s loved Dax since the first time they met, but he’s never really seen her like that. With her grandfather trying to marry her off, who better to come to her rescue than the most uninterested, eligible bachelor.

Dax is torn between walking away from the only life he’s ever known to answer the call of duty and keeping his distance from the woman he can’t live without. The longer they put off the inevitable, the harder it becomes to choose.

Dax by Kat Mizera
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have yet to achieve my goal in catching up this series with the first two Royal Protector books, but I will keep trying because Kat Mizera is talented AF!!
GAH, everything I’ve by her has been just ridiculously well written! There is an incredible amount of layers and bumps for a person such as Isla, and Dax as well to some extent, that an every day person such as you and I would probably not have to walk thru or jump to get what we desire. But they have obligations and history that just can’t be ignored so it has to be incorporated. This is all to say that a person such as Isla doesn’t get to just say “I want to marry X person” and it just be that. That’s what I loved reading the most in this story. All of those little details being part of the story and not brushed over. Every book I’ve read by Kat has made me happy because she’s respectful of the subject and makes sure to do her homework to get things correct on the page.

All that being said, I do wish there was a bit less rigidity in both Dax and Isla. I don’t want to give away any plot points about the journey, but it seemed to me they were unnecessarily stubborn at times that caused drama where drama did not need any help at all LOL if you get my meaning. But if I put some thought into it, I also don’t know if the story would have the same impact on me if they weren’t so … I’m going to leave it as I began lol I love this author and I loved this story!

Meet the Author

USA Today Bestselling and award-winning author Kat Mizera is a South Florida native. Born in Miami Beach with a healthy dose of wanderlust, she’s called Los Angeles, Long Island, upstate New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Atlanta home. She’s never been able to pick which locale is her favorite, but if pressed, she’d probably choose the west coast.

A typical PTA mom with a wonderful and supportive husband (Kevin) and two amazing boys (Nick and Max), Kat can usually be found scrapbooking or indulging in her second love (after writing) – traveling. Greece is one of her favorite places in the world. She loves that Athens is a big city with a small-town feel. The food, beaches and culture keep her going back as often as possible.

Kat’s been a working freelance writer for nearly 30 years. She sold her first article–a review of a rock concert–for $10 in 1985. Since then she’s been an entertainment journalist, waitress, bartender, legal assistant, food critic, magazine editor, substitute teacher, and sports writer. She also spent some time working at A & M Records in Los Angeles.

As you can guess from her Las Vegas Sidewinders series, Kat loves hockey and occasionally writes articles about her favorite team, the Florida Panthers. The rest of the time, she writes novels: sexy, romantic fiction that she hopes makes you as happy as it makes her. There’s something enticing about hockey players and romance…
