I was the fat chubby girl everyone made fun of.
He was the gorgeous player everyone wanted.
I was a nobody.
He was the basketball star destined to be great.
He said I was enough.
That my beauty was skin deep.
I thought I would never see Dominique Reed again after he broke me. He destroyed me. It took two years for me to pick up the pieces and put myself back together. We were never supposed to see each other again but Karma had other plans.
Everyone thought he was a God.
But I knew he was the devil.
I’m not sure where to start with this one. The high school part of the books left such a sour taste in my mind. If this is an indication how kids treat each other in the US I’m so glad I live far far away. None one and I mean no one deserved Sabrina’s forgiveness. I get being young and stupid but that… That was damn right cruel. I don’t want to go into it more because I’ll have to include spoilers and I’ll let you decide how you feel about it.
Dominique : I’m not sure how I feel about him. As much as I wanted to hate him, he did do a few things so right I did smile and felt a little compassion for him. But all that still didn’t erase the past.
Now I want to talk about what I did like:
Sabrina: she was the bright spot of this whole book. I was not impressed with the way she forgave Matt (her BFF) and Dominique because those two needed to beg more but OK.
Her new group of friends : they supported her and I loved them for it.
I’m giving this book 3* because I’d rather see her falling for someone else who hadn’t been connected to her past but I can’t say it was all bad. Hopefully the next one will be more up my speed.
