His center is freezing cold,

He is everything I want and nothing I am.

Brightly Burning Bridges is an enemies to lovers, opposites attract, second chance, bully romance. It’s part of the King’s Capital Series but can be read as a standalone. This story focuses on Silas Jenkins and Skyler Jackson.

Silas in his teens years was bitter, angry, resentful, and hurting. He bullied and lashed out at others as a defense mechanism and partied any chance he got as a coping mechanism. He thinks numbing himself from reality is the answer. Grown up Silas is still an arrogant jerk, but he’s more calculated, less sloppy and is a businessman. He’s an antisocial introvert, but there’s one person he never minded interacting with, and when he sees her again, all bets are off.

Skyler is mature, smart, responsible, and a loner. She never has long term friends because her mom’s job has had them moving often. She’s also self conscious because she has albinism. She trys to blend into the background and not draw attention to herself, but unfortunately her looks make her stick out no matter what. Especially when she catches the eye of Silas. Although she seems timid, Skylar has quite the sassy side and she is not afraid to fight back when pushed too far. She grows up being pretty much the same emotionally and mentally with some added personal battle wounds. Physically she’s changed a good portion of her appearance, that was a way to build her armor. But no amount of change can hide her from Silas.

Skyler and Silas are complete opposites, yet they somehow balance each other out. They are fire and ice, but also the yin to the others yang. Their personal journeys were hard and at times heartbreaking. When they see each other their love/hate chemistry practically picks up where they left off and their chemistry is undeniable.

Their story was an entertaining and easy read. The plot was original and unpredictable with a few twists. It’s a slow burn that does end in a happily ever after. Wild does a great job writing/transitioning between their past and present. I would have liked an epilogue to see a glimpse of their future, but who knows, maybe we’ll see them again in a future book.
